Newport Playground

Ok, so the Newport Playground is a ton of fun but OH MY COW that slide and climbing wall are so totally dangerous! The original playground that was made of cedar was torn down a few years ago and replaced with a modern style playground. I was kind of sad to see the cedar one go since Daddy and his family actually helped build it. When we got to the playground I immediately noticed the climbing wall. It's actually a really awesome climbing wall, it just goes pretty high and Roo did great with it; well enough that we didn't have to stand under him each time. Daddy said the Bug climbed it as well which is pretty crazy. And then there's that slide. It's fast and it has a big curve it in. We had to help catch Roo the first few times until he got used to it's speed. Bug went down a few times and we definitely had to catch him at the end. He's really little and goes super fast on it. We all climbed the wall and went down the slide and the boys had a blast playing there for the few days we were in Newport.

Family Reunion

On Sunday we went to the annual family reunion. This was the first year we've been able to go and we had a really nice time. The boys had fun playing with their cousins and we enjoyed catching up with family that we hadn't seen in a while. The weather was warm and a bit humid and there were a ton of black flies. I really don't like black flies. But other then those pesky creatures, we all had a really good time!

Sebasticook Lake

We spent the afternoon on Sunday at Daddy's family friend's house on Sebasticook Lake. I always like hanging out with Donnie and Cheryl because they tell wonderful stories of how well behaved Daddy was as a kid. They've know Daddy since around the time he was born so they definitely know all the stories!

The boys had a ton of fun playing in the lake. It was cold but they didn't care. It was a beautiful afternoon and we sat by the lake and enjoyed the breeze. The breeze is great not just because it's relaxing but also because it carries the black flies away. Man, those black flies are pesky, I've got a few good bites behind both of my ears, ouch!

The boys got soaked and we had a really enjoyable afternoon relaxing and sharing stories.

Eye Boo Boo #1

yes, that means there's an eye boo boo #2.

Bug was fighting back when Roo was antagonizing him and scratched him in the eye. The ped's office was able to get him into the eye doctor and the doc did a good eye exam and said it's just a scratch and that it would be better the next day. It was. The best part of the eye doctor was when the doctor showed Roo all the different pictures and then made them smaller and smaller. One picture was a hand, Roo called it a cow. The doc said, let's call it a hand. When we were leaving, the doc said, great job Roo, lets clap our cows....gotta love a doc with a sense of humor.

Bug woke up from his nap yesterday and his right eye is really red in the white portion of his eyeball near his nose. It looks like it's spreading a bit but it doesn't seem to be bothering him. I talked to the pharmacist and the nurses line today and will either take him to a local ped where we are or if we can't get in we'll go to the "doc in a box." Either way, we'd be happier with it being looked at. Our top two guesses of what may have happened are that he's allergic to Miss Sassy the cat at Grammie's or possibly the Maine state bird, aka the black fly. Hopefully it's allergy and not any sort of infection. I'm trying not to think that this is karma for him scratching Roo.

Who Doesn't Eat Lobstah?!?

Bug doesn't eat lobstah! When I went grocery shopping last weekend I got Bug his very own lobster. We wanted to trial it at home to make sure he's not allergic to it. Well, we figured out that either way, he just won't taste it. So, we're still not really sure how he would react to eating it, but he cringes at the sight of it. Can't wait to have lobstah!

Preschool Graduation

Wow! Roo is a preschool graduate! But he's not going to K next year, he'll go back to preschool for another year, we're just not sure where yet.

His graduation was great, he was adorable and looked so handsome all dressed up. I won't mention how mad he was at me for making him get dressed up, but it was totally worth it.

Grandma and Grandpa came to graduation and Roo put on his best show yet. Still no singing or hand motions; well, there was that one during one song, but he was hilarious. He had plenty of sleep the night before, but he just kept yawning and yawing. So much so that he had Grandpa in tears, which put me in tears. It was just too funny. At one point he even rested his head on his hand, yeah, standing up; that's our boy!

In one of the songs, the kids sang each letter and then made the sound of the letter and said something that goes with the letter, he was right on cue for the letter "Y" when his yawn couldn't have been timed any better.

The best song of all was when each child was given an instrument and one of the kids from the class conducted. What a riot, just a bunch of kids banging on instruments for a minute until the child conductor stopped them, all the parents loved it.

Once the singing was over each of the kids went and got their diploma. After the ceremony Roo took pictures with us and his friend Kristina whose parents we carpooled with all year. Roo also got to spend the rest of the day with his Grandma and Grandpa and he had a blast. They got him a cool watch for his graduation and he hasn't taken it off since!

Roo was really sad the next day when he couldn't go to school. I don't think he realized that graduation meant that the school year is over. He really loved school all year long and learned a ton. And though he never sang in any of the shows, he sings constantly at home and likes to remind us that he knows all the words. What a great first school experience!

Lightening

Last week there was a ligthening strike near or at our home. When we got home the computer wasn't working. Yikes, no internet. What, no DirecTV either! We picked up the phone and realized there was no dial tone. What's going on here. While I asked our neighbor if there had been a storm, which she confirmed and said it was the scariest thunder she'd ever heard, Daddy checked around the house and found that the phone box attached to the house had blown up. Seriously, there were parts in the neighbors yard.

I called Verizon on my cell and they were able to come out the next day to fix it since Bug's allergies are something we should be able to reliably call 911 from a landline. The gentleman who fixed the box said he'd never seen anything like it and that we were lucky the house didn't burn down. He fixed that and got the internet up and running again. Whew!

DirecTV came a couple of days later and fixed that and we got 2 new remotes, woo hoo!

Not being an expert in lightening or electronics, I have been wondering if anything else would suffer as a result of the storm. Looks like the modem is dead. Verizon is sending us a new one. No internet again, bummer.

So for now, I can't update the blog with pictures. It'll be a couple of weeks before I get pictures up, but there will be some great updates from my phone over the next week.

The moral of the lightening story is that when we fixed all of the electrical in the house last year, we added a whole house surge protector.....worth every penny!

One of my Favorite Rooism's

I love how Roo will say "oh my cow" it's such a great combination of two different phrases. I caught myself saying it today when a huge storm was rolling in. It's definitely a keeper!

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

Frog and snails and puppy-dog tails!

Now that the warmer weather is here the boys have been playing outside everyday when we get home and almost all day on the weekends. Last weekend Roo found where all the worms live. He was digging around by the shed and found at least a handful of worms. I gave him a tupperware so he could store them, with holes in the lid. He really wanted to sit at the kitchen table and count all of them but that didn't seem like a good idea to me!

And if it's not worms it bugs. Caterpillars are his favorite but he also likes most any other bug that is nice. He loves the ladybugs at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Did you know that caterpillars breathe through holes on the sides of their body and that some have fake eyes that make them look like snakes to scare away predators?! And, did you know that ladybugs use the same weapon as skunks to scare away predators, just on a much much smaller scale. We are learning all of this and more in Roo's insect book that Uncle Matt got him for his birthday.

This would all make Grandma squirm with eewie's!

Mother's Day Show

The preschool had a nice mother's day show for all the mom's at preschool today. It was really cute, the teachers read a nice description about each mom that the kids helped fill in. Roo's was great:

My mommy's name is (he got it right).

She is "23" year's old. (the age range for mom's today was 6 - 60 based on what the kids said)

She has "light black" hair and "brown green" eyes.

Her favorite food is "anything my daddy cooks."

I make my mommy happy when I'm "playing."

I like when my mommy and I "swing together outside."

And then he drew a picture of me! Very very cute.

After they read each child's paper, they sang a few songs. Roo was a riot, I thought for sure he would sing since he stood there so nicely for the readings. Nope, not at all, he hid behind the little girl standing next to him.

Once they were done, he was the first to break the order and said "I want to give my mom and hug and kiss," and ran over to me!

After the show, they had a few small gifts they had made for us, which were really nice, one of which I brought back to work with me.

It was really fun and I enjoyed seeing Roo during his school day. His teachers are so nice, he's really going to miss going to school this summer.
